Mark 4:1 King James Version (KJV) 4 And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
Mark 4:1 Contemporary English Version (CEV) A Story about a Farmer
4 The next time Jesus taught beside Lake Galilee, a big crowd gathered. It was so large that he had to sit in a boat out on the lake, while the people stood on the shore.

These are my thoughts. Many have to come Jesus but not all of them would follow Him.

Mark 4:2 King James Version (KJV) 2 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
Mark 4:2 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
2 He used stories to teach them many things, and this is part of what he taught:

These are my thoughts. Sometimes a story can help us better understand things, the Lord wanted people to understand, those that did not was because they refused to believe by faith.

Mark 4:3 King James Version (KJV) 3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
Mark 4:3 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
3 Now listen! A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field.

These are my thoughts. We are to do the same with the gospel, spreading the gospel so the Lord can grow the seed He uses us to plant.

Mark 4:4 King James Version (KJV) 4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
Mark 4:4 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
4 While the farmer was scattering the seed, some of it fell along the road and was eaten by birds.
Contemporary English Version (CEV) Copyright © 1995 by American Bible Society
These are my thoughts. We don’t the seeds of the gospel we throw out to eat by the birds of the world but we are not to let the chance of this happening keep us from being used to spread the seed.

Mark 4:5 King James Version (KJV) 5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
Mark 4:5 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
5 Other seeds fell on thin, rocky ground and quickly started growing because the soil wasn’t very deep.

These are my thoughts. There are some who start out with a fire for the Lord as soon as they hear the gospel, we are all to have a fire for Him as Christians.

Mark 4:6 King James Version (KJV) 6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
Mark 4:6 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and dried up, because they did not have enough roots.

These are my thoughts. If our roots are not founded in Him this world will do a great harm to us.

Mark 4:7 King James Version (KJV) 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
Mark 4:7 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
7 Some other seeds fell where thornbushes grew up and choked out the plants. So they did not produce any grain.
Contemporary English Version (CEV) Copyright © 1995 by American Bible Society
These are my thought. Some Christians grow but because they do not have the right people in their lives to help them grow past the thorns they get choked by them, we should try to people for them to help bring down the thorns so they can keep growing.

Mark 4:8 King James Version (KJV) 8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
Mark 4:8 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
8 But a few seeds did fall on good ground where the plants grew and produced thirty or sixty or even a hundred times as much as was scattered.
Contemporary English Version (CEV) Copyright © 1995 by American Bible Society
These are my thoughts. We are to be the good ground that way God can use the seed of the Spirit to lead us to share the seed of the gospel with others and be used for the Spirit to bring them into His fold.

Mark 4:9 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
9 Then Jesus said, “If you have ears, pay attention.”

These are my thoughts. We all need to listen to His word, if we don’t the time will come that we wished we had.

Mark 4:10 King James Version (KJV) 10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
Mark 4:10 Contemporary English Version (CEV) Why Jesus Used Stories
10 When Jesus was alone with the twelve apostles and some others, they asked him about these stories.

These are my thoughts. The disciples were able to ask God face to face questions, this connection was something they had to have for them to be used to build the church.

Mark 4:11 King James Version (KJV) 11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mark 4:11 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
11 He answered: I have explained the secret about God’s kingdom to you, but for others I can use only stories.

These are my thoughts. These stories were parables but by the Lord teaching us we can learn the secrets.

Mark 4:12 King James Version (KJV) 12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mark 4:12 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
12 The reason is, “These people will look and look, but never see. They will listen and listen, but never understand. If they did, they would turn to God, and he would forgive them.”

These are my thoughts. The world does not truly understand and believe otherwise they would not reject Him as Lord.

Jesus Explains the Story about the Farmer 13 Jesus told them:
If you don’t understand this story, you won’t understand any others.

Mark 4:14 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Mark 4:15 King James Version (KJV) 15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

15 The seeds that fell along the road are the people who hear the message. But Satan soon comes and snatches it away from them.

Mark 4:16 King James Version (KJV) 16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
Mark 4:16 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
16 The seeds that fell on rocky ground are the people who gladly hear the message and accept it right away.

These are my thoughts. There are some people who accept the gospel right away but we are stand with people as they grow with Christ.

Mark 4:17 King James Version (KJV) 17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
Mark 4:17 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
17 But they don’t have any roots, and they don’t last very long. As soon as life gets hard or the message gets them in trouble, they give up.

Mark 4:18 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
18 The seeds that fell among the thorn bushes are also people who hear the message.

Mark 4:19 King James Version (KJV) 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Mark 4:19 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
19 But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.

These are my thoughts. We are not to let the struggles in this life keep us from going to the Lord.

20 The seeds that fell on good ground are the people who hear and welcome the message. They produce thirty or sixty or even a hundred times as much as was planted.

These are my thoughts.
These are these people that devote their lives to the Lord, those of true to Faith the real Christians.
