As cliche as it sounds, the path to salvation is a very simple and easy 5 step process.
Step 1) Recognize that your life has been empty and that you need more than works and worldly possessions to be happy.
Step 2) Realize that the one and only way to heaven and eternal salvation is Jesus, God's only Son.
Step 3) Next, make a choice to follow Jesus, and all of his teachings. Truly believe that He died on the Cross for all of your and the rest of the world's sins. He made the ultimate sacrifice.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
-John 3:16
Step 4) Repent of all of your sins. Ask for forgiveness. Be assured, He is listening and hearing your every thought and word. Repent and He will hear.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
-Ephesians 2:8-9
Step 5) Desire a closer personal relationship with Him. Despite what has been untruly written, Jesus is not some vengeful deity content with hurling evil-doers into Lakes of Fire. No, He is a merciful, interesting, and forgiving Person. He wants nothing more than to get to know you and for you to desire a closer relationship with Him. However, just as we all have different aspects, Jesus also said what would happen if we do not repent of our sins and accept him.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-Romans 6:23
That is all that is required to gain your salvation and to have a more fulfilling life.
But, is there more ways to have a better relationship with Jesus? YES!!!
Although none of these will gain you salvation, each will enable you to have a closer walk with Him.
1) Begin reading your Bible daily. If you do not have a Bible, many book stores sell them, hundreds of organizations give them away for free, and there are millions of free downloads on the web. The Bible says that we need to enrich our lives with passages from the Word (the Bible). I do my devotional time in the morning. It seems to allow the day to start on a good note. But, any time is fine, and there are no set limits to how long of a time it has to be. Five minutes a day reading is still five minutes a day spent thinking about Him.
2) Find a good church that fits your comfort level. In my opinion, denomination does not matter. Find one that make you feel at home and a part of it. Start participating in missionary work if you feel drawn to it. Trust me, it is a very powerful thing to be a part of the Church. It makes you feel like you are truly doing the Lord's work. And, don't limit your time to just Sunday morning. Sunday night and Wednesday night sermons and events can and will be just as powerful and fruitful as Sunday morning. Plus, where in the Bible does it say to go to Church only on the Sabbath?
3) Get baptized as a public expression of your faith. This is not required for salvation, however, the Bible does say that it goes hand in hand with the process afterwards. Just remember that biblical baptism is complete immersion, not just sprinkling and baptism is only after repentence and salvation. Children below the age of accountability should not be baptised.
I know all of this is a lot of information being thrown at you fast, but, trust me, the reward is so much better than anything you have ever experienced before.
