“Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you. Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them."
-Ezekiel 38:2-7
It sort of sounds like the title of a J.R.R. Tolkien book, huh? However, it is the coming battle centered around the country of Israel. For decades, ever since Israel became a nation again, the Middle East has been the center of attention for the world. But, why? True, the Middle East has huge quantities of oil and other natural resources. However, the real reason is that Israel will be the stage for the most intense and tragic dramas in history. This being the case, there will be a great attack on Israel and God Himself will intervene. Let us delved into this subject together, and I will attempt to explain the War of Gog and Magog.
The prophecy about this battle dates back about 2,600 years and was predicted by none other than one of the greatest prophets of all time, Ezekiel. He predicted that, 'in the latter years' (end times), a force out of the North, led by the prince of Rosh, will invade Israel. This invasion will actually be influenced by God, in order to show the nations His glory and power. Ezekiel even gives us the names of the countries involved. Rosh is thought by many prophecy experts to mean Russia, mainly because the prince comes from the 'far north', and, in biblical prophecy, all points are oriented with Israel in the spiritual and geographical middle. Meshech, Tubal, Togarmah, and Gomer are all situated in what is now Turkey. Persia is present day Iran. Cush is in Sudan. Magog is in Central Asia and the southern republics of the former Soviet Union. And, finally, Libya and Ethiopia are still thriving nations today. After reading this list, it is not hard to draw parallels to present conditions. All of these nations are currently shoring up alliances with each other and other nations. And, all of them hate Israel.
“Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them. After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely. You will ascend, coming like a storm, covering the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.”
-Ezekiel 38:7-9
Ezekiel says this will happen after Israel returns to its' homeland. Ladies and gentlemen, that has already happened. The Islamic nations mentioned above are gathering their troops and making allies. Ezekiel also mentions that 'Sheba, Dedan, and Tarshish' object but will not interfere with the plans to annihilate Israel. These represent present day France, Spain, England, and the Arabian Peninsula.
“And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground."
-Ezekiel 38:18-20
Fortunately, the attack will be thwarted by our Heavenly Father. God Himself will cause a great earthquake that will be felt all over the earth. Mountains will disappear, walls will tumble, and men will fear God. God will also cause infighting among Gog's troops and disease and pestilence will take its' toll. And, finally, there will be flooding rain fall, massive hail stones, fire, and brimstone. Thus, Yahweh will save Israel.
"You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured."
-Ezekiel 39:4
Afterwards, birds of prey and the beasts of the fields will eat the dead and dying. It will take seven months in order to bury the dead. Also, Israel will be able to use the fuel from Gog's army for seven years. I believe all of this will happen, and may actually cause, the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and the Antichrist.
"And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord God.”
-Ezekiel 39:29
As always, allow the word of God, the Bible, guide you. Keep praying and watching. Events will unfold as the prophets predicted millennium ago. And, when they do, look up, for your redemption is near. God bless you all.
