In today's society, it has become common practice to sleep around until you find someone who you feel 'compatible' with. However, any Christian can see the sin in this way of thinking. I believe that this is why most men and women have trouble with finding their 'soul-mate' (or, as I like to call it, Godly-mate). I know first hand that lust is a powerful weapon of Satan. It can control the mind, lower our inhibitions, make us think thoughts that would drive our parents crazy. On average, according to a Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, men think about sex every 52 seconds. Women: once a day. Although, scientists are blaming it on hormones, I know the true culprit. The Great Deceiver himself, Lucifer. I couldn't find any studies on how often people think about God (almost an answer in itself), but I'm sure the number is much, much lower.
"And remember, when someone wants to do wrong it is never God who is tempting him, for God never wants to do wrong and never tempts anyone else to do it. Temptation is the pull of man's own evil thoughts and wishes."
- James 1:13 & 14
Now, back to the original topic. Love vs Lust. Lust, of course, is simply an urge to procreate. Love is an emotional response geared toward a certain person, place, or thing. You can love just one thing about a person, or you can love everything about them. Unfortunately, it is hard to tell the difference between them in the heat of the moment. Husbands and wives should have a certain amount of attraction to each other, but it is different in that it is produced from the love they have for each other. Lust outside of marriage is not what God intended. Additionally, homosexual lust is strictly against and angering to God. But, the attraction that accompanies marriage is God-sent and Holy.
"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." - Hebrews 13:4
Having said that, God's mercy is limitless. No matter how far you have fallen, He can always bring you back up. Whether you are a sexaholic, addicted to pornography, or just keep giving into temptation, He can always forgive you. All that is required of you is to just ask. Jesus has a perfect plan already picked out for each of us. It is up to Him to know what is best for us. Allow Him to work in you life, and I promise you won't be disappointed.
