Mark 6:2 King James Version (KJV)
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Mark 6:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
Mark 6:3 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

These are my thoughts.
People didn’t truly know who Jesus was and if they did they would have joy, we dind joy from knowing who He is and how He feels about us.

4 But Jesus said, “Prophets are honored by everyone, except the people of their hometown and their relatives and their own family.”

8 He told them, “You may take along a walking stick. But don’t carry food or a traveling bag or any money.

These are my thoughts.
This verse was for the disciples as they went out then, they weren’t commanded to do this in this way when the great commission is given what we can get out of it is what He was teaching them by saying and having them do this, we are to rely on Him to meet our needs.

9 It’s all right to wear sandals, but don’t take along a change of clothes.

11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

11 If any place won’t welcome you or listen to your message, leave and shake the dust from your feet as a warning to them.”

14 Jesus became so well-known that Herod the ruler heard about him. Some people thought he was John the Baptist, who had come back to life with the power to work miracles.

Mark 6:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
Mark 6:17 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
17 Herod had earlier married Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
Contemporary English Version (CEV) Copyright © 1995 by American Bible Society
These are my thoughts.
Herod took his brother’s wife, it was Jewish tradition and law that if the brother passed away that then the brother took his sister in law as his wife and by doing this it meant she was taken care of but Herod took his brother’s wife which means his brother hadn’t passed away but he stole his wife and took her for his own.

18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
Mark 6:18 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
18 But John had told him, “It isn’t right for you to take your brother’s wife!” So, in order to please Herodias, Herod arrested John and put him in prison.

Sometimes doing what is right has serve results. John was put into prison for doing right, people don’t like to hear what they are doing is wrong but as Christians we should share as God leads us, which John did.

20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
Mark 6:20 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
20 because Herod was afraid of John and protected him. He knew that John was a good and holy man. Even though Herod was confused by what John said, he was glad to listen to him. And he often did.

These are my thoughts.
Herod liked hearing John even though he didn’t listen or try to understand him, many wouldn’t feel this same way. Rather to enjoying to live hear the word let us go further and live by the word instead of just hearing.
